Mission Statement
“The American Latino Theatre was founded to produce professional quality theatrical productions that reflect the American Latino experience and dedicated to providing education through entertainment.”.
The American Latino Theatre (AmLT) is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization dedicated to providing a forum for the American Latino experience. Founded by Felipe Alejandro, David Llauger-Meiselman, and Lawrence S. Smilgys, the AmLT is a new independent voice in the Los Angeles Theatre Community.
With productions such as the critically acclaimed Transformations, the politically charged Love, Lies and Revolution, and the commedia dell’arte-inspired Virgin Love at the Ricardo Montalban Theatre, AmLT founders do more than present high caliber theatrical work. They also work to engage disadvantaged communities through arts advocacy by providing opportunities to artists in the Latino community.
Past initiatives include the AmLT Youth Theatre Project providing ongoing theatrical productions and arts education for schools in underserved areas. Additionally, AmLT has provided new playwrights the opportunity to see their work realized on stage. These works include Katrina Elias’ civil war drama Red Colombian Sky and Jake Meyers’ comedy Lauren Martin.
